In this part of the session, I can explore leadership opportunities in small groups.

Directions for Activity:
  • Find the table with the bag that has your name on it. Join the table group where you find your name.
  • Read and discuss the scenario with your group that is taped to your bag. Decide how you will role play the scenario for the group.
  • Take special note of the “trick” that is listed by your scenario, but don’t use any word that sounds like the “trick” during your role play.
  • The person being pressured in the role play is not to respond verbally to the pressure.
  • All players are to stop when Dr. Rosenbalm calls “freeze” at the end of each demonstration. Wait until she signals you to relax.
  • Each table team will then look through their “Bag of Tricks” and decide which peer pressure “trick” is being demonstrated. They will then have a recorder write down the “trick” beside the role play titles on their table-top worksheet.
  • After the role play activity, Dr. Rosenbalm will review the role play scenarios and announce the correct answers.
  • Each group will be asked to explain their choices, if they are different from the correct answer.
  • Discuss experiences, feelings, and opportunities for leadership in each situation.
  • Review “tricks” to be aware of and discuss take-aways.
